February 2009 Business Meeting

President Pat Wells called the February business meeting to order at 6:08 on Monday, Feb. 09 2009 at the Calhoun Public Library. Twenty three members were in attendance. We began the meeting with a reading from Stash Envy by Emilie Stone.

Secretary's Report: Kristina Parmer's name was misspelled in the minutes. Dorothy Sauder moved to accept the amended minutes and Pam Unruh seconded the motion.

Treasurer's report:
  • Dot Holmes is trying to close out the account for 2008 so please give her all receipts before the end of the month. Dot read the treasurer's report. Kristina Parmer moved we accept the treasurer's report and Dorothy Sauder seconded the motion.
  • Marguerite Causby volunteered do annual audit. Marie Dixon moved that audit be done and Pat Gobbel seconded. Dot will do a year end report at the end of the month after the books have been closed out for the year. The audit will be done at the end of the month.

Sunshine Chair: Dot Holmes sent a birthday card to an honorary member and to new member Debbie Baue.

Charity Quilt Chair: Marie Dixon has 4 tops for people to quilt.

Announcements:
  • Terri Thomas announced the East Cobb Quilter's Guild Quilt Show call for quilts. Deadline for entries is June 30th. Show is Sept 18 – 20th.
  • Pam Gobbel announced that the East TN shop hop June 18th – June 27th.
  • Pat Wells reported that she received a notice from Lovin Stitches, a new Gammil Machine dealer, is open. 7076 Ramsey St/ HWY 401 Fayetteville, NC
  • Dot Holmes will be featured on Sew Bee It's blog as their oldest quilter.

New Business:
  • 2009 Dues are due this month. Karen Gentsch passed out new membership forms and requested that everyone fill out a form so we can get updated information for everyone.
  • Marie Dixon mentioned how important good quarter inch seams are especially when putting quilts together from blocks from multiple people.
  • The incoming officers passed around ballots for the block of the month and quilt challenge. We discussed the upcoming years workshops. Next month Pam Unruh will pass around a list of activities and get volunteers for committees.
  • There was a discussion that we should have a quilt show again as it has been several years since we've had one.
  • The Battle of Resaca reenactment has (in May around mother's day) invited us to do a demonstration.
Old Business: Secret sisters were revealed.

Block of the Month: No block was presented this month.

Technique: Pat Wells taught the Log Cabin Heart block.

Show and Tell:
  • Pat Gobbel: Brought two finished charity quilts, one of Marie's and a cheater quilt. Both were tie quilted by the kids (and some adults) at New Echota Frontier Days and finished by Pat.
  • Sandy Blake: Quilted postcards from last work night.
  • Marie Dixon: Heart wall hanging for a friend.
  • Jeannette Oblander: Bowtie Block of the Month
  • Debbie Baue: Heart quilted postcards and paper pieced heart.
  • Terri: THE Jacobean quilt, embroidery
  • Emilie Stone: Butterfly quilt, Diamond quilt, paper piecing block, bright quilt with circles with rick rac embellishment, embroidered cardinal and dogwood wall hanging, Bowtie, Flying Geese, and North Star BOM Blocks
  • Dorothy Sauder: crocheted pink baby blanket
  • Dot Holmes: 6 inch North Start , Flying Geese, Bowtie and Birds in the Air BOM Blocks
  • Kristina Parmer: Carpenter's Wheel paper piecing blocks, Underground rail road wagon wheel blocks
  • Karen Gentsch: 9 patch blocks for online block exchange, raccoon appliqué block.
