October 2009 Business Meeting

Monday, October 12, 2009

The October 2009 business meeting was called to order by President Pam Unruh on Monday, October 12 at 6:05 PM. The meeting was held at the Senior Citizens Center as the library was closed for Columbus Day. 19 members and 1 visitor were present. This meeting was the day of the Log Cabin Quilt Challenge. 11 quilters brought challenge quilts and hung them up before the meeting started.

The owner of Sew Sue visited our meeting. She reintroduced herself and her store to the guild. She brought us a book with samples of fabric she has in stock. Sew Sue does quilting classes, alterations, sewing classes and has someone who comes in and services sewing machines. Sue passed out quilter's discount coupons. Sue said to laminate the coupon and if it is laminated they will not keep it and it can be used each time you come in. The guild will give her a copy of our book next year so she can try to have the materials we need in stock. She will try to order in anything we are looking for that she does not have in stock.

Cobb County quilt guild show will be held September 18-20 at the Cobb County Civic Center.
Troy Cross is interested in starting a quilt kit business. He would like to have someone sew for him. He would like someone who thinks outside of the box. The person would help to create the kit, chose colors and borders plus sewing. If interested please call him at 706-629-1814 or email him at brotherly_servant@yahoo.com

Old Business:
The quilt show will be in the last week of October. We passed out the quilt show entry forms. Please bring them to the October business meeting.
The challenge quilts are due in October also. There have been some confusion on the Challenge rules, so we discussed letting people enter quilts that have been professionally quilted but not be judged in that category. This was later revised and we will not be judging the quilts, but everyone who brings a challenge quilt will be entered in a drawing.

New Business:
Work night is on Sept 28. Carrie will present Trapunto. We should either get a panel (cheater cloth) that you want to do trapunto on, or an existing pieced top and a design to quilt. We will need to bring water soluble thread, and batting both for the puffed parts and the quilt, and bring a sewing machine that allows you to drop the feed dogs or a business card to tape over the feed dogs.

Show and Tell
Dorothy – Sock putter on assister and walker pocket.
Marie – Redwork “Behind every quilter is a huge pile of fabric”, Star sampler quilt, Mary's Triangle quilt
