Remember to bring a fat quarter for Pat Gobbel if you are participating in the Birthday Fat Quarter Exchange. We have no May birthdays but Pat's birthday was in April and we need to catch up with her birthday.

April 2010 Business Meeting

On April 12th, 2010 President Marie Dixon called the Scrappy Quilter's Club to order at 6:05 PM.

Charity Report given by Pat Gobbel

Club members met on the last Monday of March 10 labels were affixed to charity quilts. Approx. 10 quilts were completed for donation. Dorothy passed out quilt tops that need completion for charity quilts. She exihibited seven. It is decided that baby quilts will be sent to the hospital. Pat G. will label any and all charity quilts. It was discussed that representatives from receiving charity organizations will come to one of our meetings to actually receive the quilts being donated.

Annoucements:

  • Carrie is adding to her family! She is 13 weeks pregnant.

  • Terri Thomas is chairing the GA Quilt Project.

  • It was decided that we will not be meeting on the 5th Monday in May for charity work night. That will be Memorial day.

Marie discusses future activities:

  • April 26th Mary L. will be teaching purse making. Motion made and seconded that she will be given a small sum - $25 for teaching this class.

  • Name tags are planned for the May work night. Terri Thomas is sheriff! Wear your name tag or be fined! (Twenty-five cents - fine amount.)

  • Dot has been appointed to be the Christmas committee chairperson. Marie will reserve the Methodist church room for the occassion. Club allows $5 per person for games, decorations, etc. Carrie volunteered for games. The Christmas party will be December 13th, 2010.

  • Marguerite is asked to teach a Bible or laptop cover class on March 28th, 2011.

  • The Projects for each month were discussed for our book.

Our first technique refresher was taught by Pat G. She passed out a crossword puzzle with Quilting 101 terms.

Fat Quarter Birthday Exchange, a fat quarter for each birthday girl for each month.....April catch up - Pat G and Carrie. Exchange on Business night. Pat G will get summary of who will participate.

Marie proposed a Quilt show in October 2011

Pat G presents the new Quilt of the month.
1.25 yds of each fabric (for blocks) - increase for border.
Setting cloth - 2.5 yards.
Measurements for 12 blocks with a 5" border.

We were dismissed at 7:28 PM.

Sew and Tell:

  • Marguerite and Jeanette presented completed charity quilts.

  • Ruby shared a partially finished quilt for her son.

  • Terri shared family heirlooms - Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls - that she made many years ago.

  • Marie shared a denim quilt.

February 2010 Business Meeting

The February 7, 2010 business meeting was called to order at the Calhoun Public Libary by Vice President Kristina Parmer. 10 members were in attendance.

Reading: Emilie Stone read “The Month After Christmas”

Secretary's report: Jan Hantus moved and Pat Gobbel seconded that we accept the secretary's report as it appeared in the newsletter.

Treasurer's Report: Pat Gobbel moved and Jan Hantus seconded that we accept the Treasurer's report as printed in the newsletter.

Sunshine Report: Dot Holmes sent a report that there were no birthdays for January. She sent a get well card to Marie Dixon. She is having surgery on her ankle tomorrow morning, February 8.

Charity Report: Marie Dixon was not able to attend, but we have several quilts for people to take home and finish. 10 charity quilts were turned in at tonights business meeting.

Announcements:
Work night this month, Feb 22, we will not have a class, but we can either work on charity quilts or work on our own projects. The group decided to work on charity quilts.

Old Business:
  • Georgia Quilt Council requesting a quilt for the museum due January of 2011. Marie sent an article with several Georgia quilt blocks as a suggestion for our quilt. Needs to be a double or queen size quilt.
  • It is time to renew Georgia Quilt Council memberships.
  • Kristina Parmer passed out pot pincher patterns from Pam Unruh.

New Business:
The 2010 guild officers were elected. The officers for the next year will be:
  • Pat Gobbel - Treasurer and Charity committee
  • Jan Hantus - Secretary
  • Jeanette Oblander - Vice President
  • Marie Dixon - President

The March worknight program has changed. Carrie Staats will teach Paper Piecing. Materials required for work night will be:
  • freezer paper
  • sewing machine
  • Thread
  • 5 fabric scraps
  • blue for background and water
  • Ruler that measures a quarter inch
Marguerite Causby agreed to audit the guild accounts again this year.

Show and Tell:
  • Emilie Stone – Half log cabin, cabin fabric and jelly rolls, baby quilt panel for her class at Sew Sue, Half square triangle for her class, quilt as you go baby book all for charity quilts
  • Kristina Parmer – Finished 3 charity quilts that Marie had started
  • Jan Hantus – Crochet gingham blanket for her sister's baby.
  • Karen Gentsch – Finished Emilie's rail fence quilt. Tied at Frontier days and bound.
  • Ruby Adler – Hunter's star quilt top that she did while she was recuperating from knee surgery
  • Carrie Staats – Her daughter is making a valentine rag quilt for her friend.

January 2010 Business Meeting

The January business meeting of the Scrappy Quilters Guild was called to order on January 11, 2010 at the Calhoun Public Library by VP Kristina Parmer. Seven members and 1 visitor, James Reaves were in attendance.

Reading: Pat Gobbel read “Paying the Price” from Quilt of Life.

Secretary's Report: Dorothy moved and Pat seconded that we approve the minutes.

Treasurer's Report: Pat Gobbel moved we accept and Jeannette Oblander seconded.

Sunshine Report: Dorothy Holmes sent 4 birthday cards in November and December to Karen Gentsch, Linda Morris, Emilie Stone and Patricia Waters.

Charity Quilt Committee: Marie Dixon's term ends next month so get charity quilts in to her next business meeting.

Old Business:

  • The Georgia Quilt Council is requesting a quilt from the guild to be displayed in the new museum that will open during the first quarter of 2011.

New Business :

  • We will need to have election of officers next month. We nominations for Secretary, Treasurer, President and Vice President. Marie Dixon nominated Pat Gobbel for Treasurer and she accepted. Please try to attend the February business meeting as we will elect officers at that time.

  • Karen showed the project for the January work night.

Announcements:

  • It is time to renew Georgia Quilt Council memberships for 2010. The Spring Convention is on Saturday, March 20 in Tifton, GA.

  • The Creative Quilters Guild of Ellis County, TX is requesting an 8” block from our guild. The block should have our guild name and location appliquéd, embroidered, or hand written in the center of the square. The block will be used for a Stitches Around The World quilt. The block needs to be sent to the Creative Quilters Guild by February 20, 2010.

  • Smoky Mountain Quilt Fest Pigeon Forge 3-9 – 3/14

  • Sewing and Quilting Expo – 3/11 – 3/13

  • A new book, Small Quilt, Big Events, by Kennesaw authors Julia LaBauve and Tammy Silvers is available from AQS.

  • Pam Unruh has a pattern for Pot Pinchers pot holders she made. We can make copies for anyone that is interested.
