November 2009 Business Meeting Minutes

Monday, November 30, 2009

ATTENDANCE: 14 members and 2 visitors

Pam welcomed our two visitors.

SECRETARY'S REPORT
The minutes from last month need two corrections: 1) Under “Challenge Quilts”, Pam Unruh’s name needs to be corrected, and 2) the name Trisha Wells should be changed to Trisha Waters. A motion was made by Dorothy and seconded by Kristina that the minutes be approved as corrected.

TREASURER'S REPORT
It was suggested that the Special Account be given a different name. After some discussion, it was decided the name of the special account would be Education Account. Also, when there is a withdrawal, please specify which account it came out of. The Treasurer’s Report was approved and seconded. All were in favor of accepting this report.

OLD BUSINESS

Pam thanked everyone who participated in the Quilt Show. It was a big success! There were 45 quilts on display and 168 people attended. As mentioned in the guild’s newsletter, first place went to Dorothy Sauder, second place went to Marie Dixon, and third place went to Kathy Baldwin. There was an article in the Calhoun Times last week with Dorothy’s picture! It was suggested that next year we try a bit harder to advertise in the paper ahead of the show, especially in the upcoming events column.

NEW BUSINESS

Cards were handed out to those in attendance to write down anything we would like to see changed in the guild’s by-laws. The cards were to be returned to Pam. A committee will be meeting this week to go over the by-laws.

There are five Mondays this month, so we will have a Charity Quilt Work Night on Monday, November 30. Marie commented that jeans are needed and to please return any charity quilts that anyone still has.

Pam announced that the Georgia Quilt Council in Carrollton, GA is asking guilds in Georgia to each make a quilt, which will be displayed and then auctioned off. The money would go toward the museum/council. This is a long-term project (approx two years) of which everyone in the guild would work on it together. The majority were in favor of this project.

The Christmas party is set for Monday, December 14 @ 6:00 PM at the First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Marie said the doors should be unlocked so the decorating committee can get in earlier. A sheet was passed around to sign up for food. As in the past, we will exchange a yard of fabric ($7.00 or more). We should wrap it in paper or a gift bag. The wrapping will not be a competition this year. Carrie is planning a fun game for the party.

Pam announced that two officers will be stepping down next year (Dot Holmes and Karen Gentsch). She asked that we please be thinking about who would be willing to take these offices.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Kristina announced an upcoming event, Traditions Arts & Crafts Show, to be held on December 5 & 6 at the North Georgia Fairgrounds in Dalton, Georgia.

Mary Stinnett handed out business cards to advertise a website (Blastoff) for shopping on-line and earning credit by participating. Many familiar stores are represented, including a fabric store.
