May 2009 Business Meeting Minutes

President, Pat Unruh, called the May 2009 Business Meeting to order on May 11 at the Calhoun Public Library at 6:06 PM using the new gavel that Terri Thomas brought her.

Minutes and Treasurer's Report:
We received $380 total for raffle and our cost was $82.41. Our net from the raffle quilt was $267.49.
Kristina Parmer made a motion to accept the minutes as stated in the newsletter and it was seconded by Kathy Baldwin. The motion passed. Marie Dixon moved to accept treasurer's report as printed in the newsletter and Terri Thomas seconded the motion.

Sunshine Committee:
Dorothy Holmes reported that she sent two birthday cards to Carrie Staats, and Pat Gobbel.

Charity Committee:
Marie Dixon still needs at least 8 more cat blocks for the cat quilt. Emilie Stone turned 4 cat blocks into Marie at the meeting. Ruby Adler gave Marie 6 quilts for charity.

Announcements:

  • Pat Unruh and Dot Holmes will not be at next month's business meeting. Kristina Parmer will lead meeting.
  • Mary Lessis will not be able to do the June 22 work night. Dorothy Sauder suggested we have an assembly line “stitch in” for charity quilts on the June work night.
  • The May work night falls on Memorial Day. We will meet on May 26 not May 25 at the library. Dot Holmes will teach the Disappearing Nine Patch. Bring nine 5” squares with a mix of lights and darks.
  • There are several corrections to addresses in the book. Karen Gentsch will update the mail list and send it out via email.
Old Business: None

New Business:
  • Pam Unruh has talked to the library about getting a storage cabinet here at the library. We have a small storage area so we can store some guild supplies at the library.
  • Jan Hantus suggested that the guild buy or make a tent for events, like the Taste of Calhoun, and piece the top like a quilt.
  • Emilie Stone is storing batting for the guild at her house and needs someone else to take it. Pam Unruh will take the batting.
Block of the Month: Karen Gentsch presented the Evening Star block.


Sew and Tell:
  • Dot Holmes – Finished 6” Underground Railroad quilt.
  • Emilie Stone – Wonky log cabin. Storm at Sea top, Dress Quilt top, photograph quilt, 4 cat blocks. Talked about her trunk show at Regal Morning Point
  • Ruby Adler – 6 charity quilts.
  • Marie Dixon – Star sampler, Quilt from her 2 ½ inch scrap box
  • Dorothy Sauder– Celtic block charity quilt from Pat Unruh's work night.
  • Pat Wells – Finished UFO top
  • Kathy Baldwin – Place mat, hummingbird tote bag, casserole carrier, sweatshirt and fabric bowl from a quilting classes she taught in Florida. Seed bead necklace and bracelets , and angel earrings from a jewelry class she took while in Florida.
  • Carrie Staats – Showed pictures of her 5 year old daughter making a quilt for her friend's doll.
  • Karen Gentsch – Maria Peagler's book, from the book signing at Sew Bee It.
  • Dianne Preece – Displayed a page from her color journal
